The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures is the earliest in Taiwan to dedicate itself to the teaching and research of Slavic languages. After six decades of development, the Department has reached its current scale. Nevertheless, compared to other international academic institutions that benefit from geopolitical advantages and centuries of academic tradition, there remains considerable potential for further learning and advancement. With the vision of becoming a premier center for Slavic language teaching and research in the Asia-Pacific region, the Department has set the following medium- and long-term development strategies in response to future changes both within and beyond the campus.

Enrollment Professionalization

In response to the implementation of the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education starting in 2019, the Department has developed an admissions strategy and established an Admissions Committee. This committee is tasked with formulating selection methods and evaluation criteria to ensure the continued cultivation of national talent in this new educational era.

Optimize Teaching Techniques

  • Offer Multilingual and Multicultural Courses: Continue to enhance the faculty expertise in Russian, Polish, Czech, and other Slavic languages. Develop courses or summer programs in cross-Slavic language studies, literature, history, and culture to create a diverse learning environment.

  • Establish Dual or Triple Degree Collaborations: Form partnerships with domestic and international universities to broaden students' learning opportunities and professional development.

  • Offer Teaching Workshops: Refine pedagogical methods through specialized workshops.

Enhance International Academic Exchange and Mobility

  • Strengthen International Academic Connections: Regularly host international academic conferences as platforms for exchange, invite renowned global scholars for short-term lectures, and create a forward-looking environment for international collaboration and research.

  • Enhance International Mobility for Faculty and Students: Encourage students to participate in exchange programs and summer courses abroad, and support faculty in attending academic workshops or undertaking short-term teaching assignments overseas.

Establish Research Communities and Strengthen Interdisciplinary Connections

  • Form research communities that connect across departments, colleges, and universities.

  • Encourage faculty to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration to broaden academic perspectives.

Develop Teaching Materials and Publish Academic Monographs to Enhance the Visibility of Research and Educational Achievements

  • Establish a database for Slavic language learners, primarily focusing on Russian and Czech.

  • Develop teaching materials and publish academic monographs to build a robust foundation for research and teaching resources.

  • Elevate the quality of the Journal of Russian Philology to achieve recognition as a Core Journal within Taiwan Humanities Journals, as evaluated by the National Science and Technology Council.

Promote Slavic Culture and Strengthen Local Multicultural Engagement

  • Utilize the Russian Center as a bridge to promote Russian culture within G1-G12 educational institutions.

  • Strengthen community engagement by translating works related to Slavic culture and literature and conducting lectures, drawing upon the expertise and interests of Faculty and students.

  • Collaborate with the Czech Economic and Cultural Office and the Polish Office in Taipei to organize events that foster the deepening of multicultural engagement in the region.
